Overview

The University of Rochester offers PhD programs for physics and engineering majors with concentration in high-energy-density physics, plasma physics, and inertial confinement fusion studies.

Applications can be submitted to either the Department of Mechanical Engineering or the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Graduate courses are taught by faculty, most of whom hold joint appointments in these departments, and all of whom are active in research at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics. Most of the courses are crossed-listed in both departments. In addition, there is close cooperation between the high-energy-density plasma group in the Astrophysics section of the physics department, LLE, and mechanical engineering.
