English Language Support
Like many international students, scholars, and visitors, English may not be your native language. Many Americans understand this challenge and are willing to help you.
If you are interested in more in-depth training or practice, or if English training is a required part of your academic studies at the University, there are several English language programs in the Rochester area.
University English classes and conversation groups
- Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program: Graduate and undergraduate tutors can help with academic and professional writing, plus public speaking, and conversation practice. Free and open to University students.
- Eastman School of Music English for Academic Performance: Courses for matriculated ESM students with additional resources at the Eastman Writing Center.
- Campus life and student groups: There are tons of opportunities to get involved—and some might provide specific English-language support. Visit our Getting Involved page for a detailed overview. And, check out our office’s upcoming events for more ways to get involved and practice your English skills.
