Requesting dependent visas
Understand the documentation required to bring a dependent to the US.
Most international students, scholars, or employees (identified as “principal alien”) at the University of Rochester are eligible to apply for and bring their immediate family members as dependents to the US. This includes spouse, and children under 21 years of age. Common dependent categories at the University include F-2, J-2, H-4, TD, and O-3.
When you arrive in Rochester, please contact our office. We’ll welcome you and ask you to complete a simple immigration check-in form online. ISO will then review your immigration documents, including your passport and US admission details to make sure there were no problems when you entered the country.

As a dependent, you’re eligible to receive a University ID for a small fee. If you want a photo card from the University ID Office, let us know in your check-in and we’ll give you a letter with the information needed to get one.
