Elevating a Complaint to NC-SARA and New York State
SARA consumer protection provisions require the institution’s home state, through its SARA State Portal Entity, to investigate and resolve allegations of dishonest or fraudulent activity by the state’s SARA-participating institutions, including the provision of false or misleading information. (Note - student issues with grades or academic policies must be resolved by the school at the University)
A student has the right to lodge a complaint or grievance. The student should begin the complaint process with the institution and if a resolution is not found, the student would contact the institution’s home state SARA Portal Entity (listed below), within two years of the incident.
Complaints can be submitted through the New York State Education Department’s complaints webpage. Students should review the New York State Education Department's SARA-student complaint process before applying.
You can find additional information related to NC-SARA complaint procedures by visiting the SARA Student Complaints page.
Information regarding the New York State Education Department and participation in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement, including NYSED's complaint procedures, is provided through the New York State Education Department and State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement .
