The Academic Honesty Policy rules still apply to all AS&E coursework even in a remote/online learning environment. Because you are still held responsible for understanding and following the policy, you should ask course instructors to clarify their expectations for collaboration and group work, as well as for the use of authorized versus unauthorized materials.
Questions about how best to follow the policy in challenging circumstances should be directed to your course instructors first and the academic honesty liaison second. The Arts, Sciences, and Engineering (AS&E) Academic Honesty Policy applies to everything you submit to a University employee as part of your progress toward a degree, including:
- Ungraded work
- Proposals for unexecuted projects
- Add/drop forms
Since the AS&E Academic Honesty Policy sets general rules and your instructors add additional course-specific rules, you should read both the AS&E policy and your course materials carefully to be sure you understand what is and isn’t permitted.
Always ask your course instructor in advance if you think something you are considering doing might be academically dishonest. You can also ask the academic honesty liaison, who offers confidential guidance on academic honesty questions and cases.
You can be found responsible for violating the policy even if you do not understand the rules or did not know that you were committing academic dishonesty. Learning the rules up front is very important. When in doubt, ask!
