Why did you choose UR for graduate education?

Apart from the research opportunities, what drew me to the University of Rochester was the strong sense of community I experienced even before joining. During my virtual visitation and conversations with current students then, I noticed how approachable faculty were and how invested they were in their students’ growth, not just in the lab, but in teaching, career planning, and overall well-being.

Also, growing up, I imagined living the New York life would mean something straight out of sitcoms, with skyscrapers and subway stops. But choosing Rochester surprised me with the perfect blend of culture, community, and quiet charm!"

What resources or services have you felt the most helpful at UR?

The Graduate Teaching Center has been a great resource, it gave me practical tools and confidence to grow as a TA and mentor which I genuinely enjoyed learning. Apart from that Carlson Library has been one of my other favorite resources on campus. From easily accessing journals to booking study rooms or just finding a quiet corner to work, it’s been such a reliable and useful part of my routine.

What are your favorite spots on or off campus?

Off campus, I really enjoy exploring the local arts and cultural scenes here. The Rochester Fringe Festival and Jazz Festival downtown are some of my favorite events, it gives the city so much energy and it’s fun to be part of that creative atmosphere. And on snowy nights, nothing beats grabbing a hot cider at Lux on South Ave, it’s a Rochester experience I always recommend. On quieter days, I love spending time at Java’s Café with a book, it has a laid-back vibe that makes it feel like my little escape from campus life.
