International Students

Working in the US

Working on Campus

International students can apply to most jobs on campus, however there are some work restrictions. There is a job board that all matriculated students can look through to see what positions are available. Positions are hourly and part time. There are a limited number of campus jobs for graduate students. There are graduate specific jobs available through many departments.

Working Off Campus as a Student

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) allows students to participate in paid, off-campus employment in their academic field, such as a credit-bearing internship or research job. For the job to qualify as CPT it must be:

  • Related to your studies
  • Considered an integral part of your curriculum
  • Completed before completion of the program

Student interested in CPT must receive approval from ISO before they start their employment.

Working in the US After Graduation

Optical Practical Training (OPT) allows students here on an F1 visa to work in a related field of study, either full-time or part-time, after graduation.

To qualify student must have been enrolled for at least two semesters.

Students graduating from a non-STEM program are eligible for this program for up to a year after graduation, while students graduating from a STEM program are eligible for up to three years after graduation.
