Why did you choose URochester for graduate education?
URochester stood out from the other schools I had applied to specifically for it's excellent research facilities and interdisciplinary atmosphere. Another aspect I really appreciate is the welcoming community here at Rochester. Any current students, faculty and staff I interacted with at URochester, even prior to my arrival, were very accommodating and happy to help in their best capacities. Now four years into my program, I still remain proud of my decision.
What resources or services have you found the most helpful at URochester?
The Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs (GEPA) office is a wonderful resource for connecting students with the resources they need. All members of the GEPA staff, including the Graduate Ambassadors, will always welcome you with a smile and do their best to help you. As an avid sportsman, I've probably spent a significant amount of time at the Goergen Athletics Complex (GAC), which has numerous facilities for most sports and fitness enthusiasts. The campus libraries are very beneficial, as each department has a dedicated librarian to help with any literature or article-browsing challenges you may be facing.
What are your favorite spots on or off-campus in Rochester?
My favorite spot on campus would be Northfield, the soccer field at the far end of River campus, bordering Mt. Hope Cemetery. Some of my best memories of soccer games in the summer and fall, with a beautiful sunset and gigantic trees in the background, were made in Northfield. Off-campus, I visit Highland Park every season, known for its vast diversity of flora. A drive to Letchworth is definitely worth the shot; it's one of my favorite places to trek. Sallinger's is a go-to chill bar for some free popcorn and peanuts and a game of pool, where my friends rendezvous on the weekends.
