Exploring Animal Connections in and Around Rochester
Connecting with animals is one of the most rewarding ways to alleviate stress. Their genuine, unselfish companionship brings me joy and relaxation, pushing me to be a better person and creating unforgettable experiences.

Today, I would like to share a range of resources that will allow students to connect with animals on various levels— whether you are looking to adopt a pet, volunteer, or just participate in fun events. There are plenty of options to suit your needs!
Lollypop Farm: Located at 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY, 14450, Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, has been a cornerstone of animal rescue and advocacy since 1873. This organization cares for over 10,000 animals each year, powered by the dedication of staff and volunteers who focus on fostering and adoption to help them find loving homes. The farm offers a variety of humane educational programs for animal lovers of all ages, including first aid courses and lessons on animal behavior, which teach empathy and responsibility to better the lives of animals in the community. Fun events, like holiday pet photo shoots, provide opportunities to support rescue efforts while connecting with fellow animal enthusiasts.
For those interested in seeing the lifesaving work done at the farm, guided tours offer insights into veterinary procedures and animal care. These experiences are perfect for families and student groups looking to learn, connect, and contribute.
Get involved with Lollypop Farm to connect with animals and make a positive impact in our community. Graduate student participation will help create a better future for our furry friends. For more information, visit Lollypop Farm's website.
Wild Wings: Located at 27 Pond Road, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472, Wild Wings Inc is an educational organization that offers graduate students a unique experience to engage with the local flora and fauna. It is home to about 30 non-releasable birds of prey, including falcons, eagles, hawks and owls, that cannot survive on their own in the wild. Wild Wings also attracts songbirds, hummingbirds, and butterflies through its beautiful gardens and well-placed bird feeders.
The sensory garden behind the nature center creates a tranquil environment, enriching the experience for all with a multitude of bird sounds, nature noises and herbal plant species to touch and smell. This peaceful setting is especially beneficial for the stressful life of graduate students, allowing for moments of peaceful relaxation outdoors while reducing stress and discovering rewarding hobbies that enhance mental wellbeing.
Wild Wings promotes environmental awareness through various educational programs, including popular after-dark activities like Owl Prowl and bat walks, encouraging students to learn about natural ecosystems.
Volunteering at Wild Wings not only supports animal care, but also fosters community connections with fellow nature enthusiasts. Get involved with Wild Wings Inc. to support wildlife conservation and help nurture both your spirit and local wildlife. Stay up to date on their events through the Wild Wings website.
Cat Cafes: Cat cafes offer a cozy escape after a long day at work and a chance to connect with both our feline friends and the people who care for them. Find out all about the care and effort that goes into helping these kitties find suitable homes while giving them all the love and support they need throughout this journey. All this can be enjoyed while sipping on delightful drinks with some baked goods in hand! Many cafes even host game, paint, or movie nights, allowing ample time to relax with cats and de-stress from a busy work environment. Connect with these cats and, if you’re ready, give them a loving home, or help link them with someone who is—every visit brings them one step closer to finding the warmth and companionship they deserve.
