‘It’s time to let them fly’

Another school year soon will begin, and many students will be starting their first year at the University.

It’s an emotional and exciting time for students, families, and loved ones. To make the transition easier, we asked parents, students and University staff for tips in this special back-to-school episode of the QuadCast, especially for parents.

“Trust the values that you gave them, trust the upbringing you gave them, and know they’re going to make good decisions,” says Anne-Marie Algier, associate dean of students and director of student activities.

Along with Algier, those interviewed were Patty Chess, neonatologist, vice chair of pediatrics at Golisano Children’s Hospital and mother of four University graduates or students: her husband, Mitchell Chess, a pediatrics radiologist at Golisano Children’s Hospital; Laura Gavigan, associate director at the College Center for Advising Services; Eleanor Oi, director of orientation; Katie Emmons ’17, a Binghamton, New York native who majored in religion and psychology; Beth Olivares, director of the David T. Kearns Center; and Dawn Bruner, director of Parent and Family Relations.
