Around 6:45 P.M. this evening, the protesters who have been occupying the main floor of Wallis Hall vacated the space. Wilson Blvd. will re-open tonight.
Since October, University leaders have been steadfast in their willingness to find compromise with the student protest leaders. Therefore, it is beyond disheartening and disappointing to learn today of their re-occupation of Wallis Hall and the absolutely false claims they made, including spreading information about an emergency Board of Trustees meeting they claim took place yesterday. There was no such meeting and no such vote, and University officials will not continue to battle this misinformation publicly and moving forward are addressing this situation internally.
May 3, 2024 | 4:52 P.M.
Just after 4 P.M. today, Friday, May 3, on the University of Rochester’s River Campus, encampment protesters as a group again entered Wallis Hall. University Department of Public Safety officers immediately responded and along with Student Life leaders are monitoring the situation. Individuals should avoid the Wallis Hall area until further notice, and Wilson Blvd. will again be closed shortly.
It is the policy of the University of Rochester to remain in operation and to continue regular services and schedules regardless of adverse weather conditions, transportation or utility problems, or general emergency situations. Exceptions to the policy may be made on a case-by-case basis and can include decisions to reduce services and/or staff.
