What is Orientation?
Encompassing a weeklong program organized by Orientation staff, incoming students will be introduced to each other, the campus, and the local community. Our Orientation staff and volunteers work hard to ensure you have a memorable week and a great introduction to life at the University of Rochester.
The programs and events on the first day of Orientation (Tuesday, August 26th)
will be geared to all incoming new students. In mid-late June you will receive a mailing from Orientation regarding information on advising, foreign language placement, and your Academic Handbook. -International Students will be able to download all of the information online.

Parent Orientation begins Tuesday, August 26th with helping your child check in between 9am and 4pm. Afterwards, there are typically information sessions, tours, and other special events lasting until 9pm. The 27th typically begins at 8am and goes until 5 pm and entails programming to help parents gain a better understanding of how the University is run. This has included meetings with Residential Life, Dining, the Dean of Freshmen, Undergraduate Research Opportunities, Security, Information Technology, and others. There is time at the end of the day in both schedules for you to take your child to dinner. Students must be on campus by 7:45pm for a required event, thus ending Parent Orientation. Check back here in June to register for your Orientation online!
Teen/Sibling Orientation on August 27th is a day designed to help the brothers and sisters of incoming students enjoy the day. This day includes tours of the University, sporting activities, movies, and many other fun events. It typically lasts from 9am to 4pm. Teen/Sibling has a small charge to participate and registration will not be online. Registration for Teen/Sibling will be sent out with the June mailing.
