Images, memories, and found objects and materials come together in the artwork of Allen C. Topolski in an exhibition at the Hartnett Gallery on the University of Rochester's River Campus Monday, Dec. 4, through Sunday, Jan. 28.
Titled "Durable Goods," the exhibit features linoleum block prints and sculptural work. Topolski, who is associate professor of art and studio coordinator at the University, will give an artist's talk at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Hartnett Gallery, which is located in Wilson Commons. A reception is also scheduled that day from 5 to 7 p.m.
Most of Topolski's three-dimensional work references home appliances of the 1950s and 1960s, nudging memories from the audience while encouraging them to reflect on function and form, presence and absence, and the mundane and the unique. Images in his linoleum block prints recall objects and are accompanied by text on each object's association to memorable individuals.
Admission to the events and the gallery are free and open to the public. For more information, call (585) 275-4188.
