University of Rochester students and the general public will have an early chance to see John Cusack's latest film, High Fidelity, in a sneak preview on Wednesday, March 29. The movie is being shown at 9 p.m. in Hoyt Hall on the River Campus, and is free and open to the public. Door passes are required for admittance; they can be obtained at the Wilson Commons Information Desk.
In addition to Cusack, High Fidelity also stars Jack Black, Lisa Bonet, Sara Gilbert, Iben Hjejle, Todd Louiso, Joan Cusack, and Joelle Carter. High Fidelity is adapted from the novel by Nick Hornby.
Despite his vast knowledge and all-consuming passion for music, record storeowner Rob Gordon (John Cusack) continually goes off key when it comes to his own personal love ballad. The proprietor of a struggling vinyl-only record store in Chicago, Gordon, along with fellow music junkies Dick (Louiso) and Barry (Black), spend their days compiling extraneous top-five lists and reorganizing their record collections while neglecting their current romances.
After numerous rejections, Gordon finally confronts his ex-girlfriends to help him examine his romantic blunders. Only then does he find that it's his reluctance to outgrow his adolescence that is keeping him from true love and happiness.
High Fidelity is a romantic comedy that brings to light the struggles men face when coming to terms with reality by abandoning their youth and preparing for adulthood.
Seating is limited and is first-come, first-serve. For more information contact (585) 275-5911. The preview is being sponsored by the Student Activities Office and UR Cinema Group.
