October 27, 2004

Rush Rhees Library will hold its annual Scare Fair from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, with decorations, contests, and refreshments. The Friedlander Lobby at the main entrance will be transformed to get visitors in the spirit for Halloween, Oct. 31.

From there, students can take the “stack stalk” and search for special books that will get them candy and tours of Rush Rhees tower. Those not interested in the dark corners and narrow passageways of the stacks can check out scary creatures like snakes and spiders visiting from Seneca Park Zoo. They’ll be on display between the circulation and reference desks.

Performances by two student a cappella groups, Midnight Ramblers and Vocal Point, will take place from 3 to 4 p.m., and costumes judging is set for 4 to 4:30 p.m. Cider and donuts will be served throughout the event.

Outside Rush Rhees, a balloon walkway will lead to the Community Living Center for a haunted house from 3 to 7 p.m. The student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers will be holding its Jack-O-Launcher competition from 2 to 3 p.m. in front of the Wilson Commons steps.
