EVENT: 'Wilson Commons Wednesdays' Marks Chinese New Year

February 7, 2005

The upcoming "Wilson Commons Wednesdays" will celebrate the Chinese New Year from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, in the Hirst Lounge in Wilson Commons on the River Campus. The theme features Chinese food, music, and culture and is being run in conjunction with the Chinese Students' Association's Arts and Literature Fair, which will continue throughout the day.

The River Campus Strings, an independent group of students, has arranged Chinese folk songs for performance during the event. Gift certificates to Chen Garden and Shanghai Chinese will be raffled, and a wide variety of Chinese foods will be served. The menu will include Asian vegetables, fried rice, ginger pork, braised codfish, tofu lo mein, and a Chinese chew bar.

The event will also include Rochester Every Day (RED) Valentine's Day promotions, in an effort to provide students with information about spending Valentine's Day off campus. Wilson Commons Information Center staff will pass out red Chinese New Year gift envelopes, encouraging students to visit RED businesses over the weekend.

The entire UR community is invited to attend and enjoy the music, food, and friendly atmosphere!
