The University of Rochesterís Midnight Ramblers, an all-male a cappella group started in 1998, will travel to New York City next month to perform in the finals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. The Rochester group won the Mid-Atlantic regional semifinals in February, defeating groups from Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Lafayette College, to win a spot as one of the top six vocal groups in the country. The national finals take place on Saturday, April 30, in Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center.
Before heading to New York City, the Ramblers, as they are casually known, will perform in several national and local venues. From March 4 to 12, they will embark on their third consecutive spring tour to southern California. In addition to multiple school performances, they will sing the national anthem for the National Basketball Associationís Los Angeles Clippers on March 7 and for the Los Angeles Lakers on March 8. Both performances will take place in the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The group is also scheduled to perform at the Kappa Delta sororityís Shamrock Project fundraiser on March 30 and will present its annual spring show on April 2 in Strong Auditorium on the Universityís River Campus.
Currently consisting of 15 members, the Ramblers have performed frequently this academic year at various University functions and charity events. They have also traveled to other universities and given workshops in local high schools. This February the group also released its fifth album, titled The Blue Album.
