The Dance Program at the University of Rochester is sponsoring a trip to Toronto to experience a new work by Companhia De Danca Deborah Colker and to visit the Canadian city.
The daylong trip, on Saturday, Feb. 12, includes opportunities for sightseeing at places such as the Art Gallery of Toronto, Chinatown, and Eaton Centre. The dance performance is in the evening at the Premier Dance Theatre at Harbourfront Centre of Ontario.
A ticket to the event includes transportation and performance admission. Ticket prices are as follows: $50 for the general public, $40 for faculty and staff, and $30 for students. The bus will depart at 9 a.m. from the Computing Library and Resources Center (CLARC) at the back of Rush Rhees Library on Library Road, and will return to campus after the evening show. Tickets are currently on sale at the Common Market, located in Wilson Commons on the River Campus.
Created in 1994, Companhia De Danca Deborah Colker is considered Brazil's foremost contemporary dance company. The company's three previous works have toured through Brazil, Germany, and France.
The company is making its Canadian debut with Rota . Rota is an acclaimed grand spectacle that combines theater, circus, and acrobatics with classical ballet and modern dance movement, humor, and sensuality. Rota is a production that's larger than life, filled with the warmth, color, movement, and ambiance of Brazil.
