1974
John Vanek (MD) writes that he has retired from his medical practice and published his first full-length book of poetry, Heart Murmurs (Bird Dog Publishing). “I have published dozens of poems in magazines and literary journals, won numerous writing awards, been reprinted in anthologies, and have read my work at the George Bush Presidential Library in Texas and at the Akron Art Museum in Ohio. An excerpt of my murder mystery, Deros, will soon be published in Sabal, a literary journal of Eckerd College.” John adds that he is married to Eugenia Poporad Vanek ’74W (EdD), and that they both enjoy reading Rochester Review.

Sandra Horning (Res) has been appointed the senior vice president and global head of Clinical Development Hematology/Oncology at the San Fransisco–based biotechnology firm Genentech. She is a professor of oncology at Stanford University’s medical school, where she also leads the lymphoma disease management group.
