Undergraduate horror conference highlights student research and writing

The University of Rochester will host Fresh Blood: Undergraduate Perspectives on Horror, a two-day conference on October 23–24 that brings together undergraduate students from Rochester and institutions across the country and internationally to present original research exploring horror in literature, film, and popular culture.

Organized by Dustin Hannum, a faculty member in the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program (WSAP), the conference grew out of his popular WRTG 105 course, American Horror Stories. The event highlights how students can build on the research, critical thinking, and writing skills developed in a foundational writing course to pursue their academic interests and share their work with a broader audience.

Co-sponsored by WSAP, the Department of English, Film and Media Studies, and the Humanities Center, the conference will feature a keynote address by Professor Jason Middleton, along with student presentations examining topics ranging from gender and identity to religion and cultural anxieties in horror.
