GRADE

The Guaranteed Rochester Accelerated Degree in Education (GRADE) is a five-year BA/BS + MS in education program for students admitted to the University of Rochester who are interested in becoming educators. (Those students selecting the Counseling program would need to complete six years.) GRADE scholars enter the University with an assurance of admission to the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development with the Steven Harrison quarter tuition scholarship for all five years. The program is designed to offer students a quality liberal arts education while also preparing them to become educators.

Important Information for Prospective Students

  • Special Features:
  • The Steven Harrison Scholarship is awarded to all GRADE scholars for all five years: one third of the students’ yearly tuition is covered by the scholarship.
  • Access to expect faculty in nationally accredited programs that prepare students for a career in education – no matter which course of study they choose
  • A diverse student population, coming from every state and over 90 countries
  • A nationally accredited program in education
  • Intellectual challenge along with extraordinary professional preparation
  • GRADE Scholars:
  • Can be from any state and choose any major
  • Will meet with a Warner School faculty advisor no later than their junior year to determine the specific graduate program they will pursue and to ensure that they meet all the requirements for that program
  • Participate in at least two courses at the Warner School by the end of their senior year.
  • Participate in some experiential learning by the end of their undergraduate education
  • Earn all the benefits of a four-year college degree, including the Rochester Curriculum, advising, study abroad, and unique programs such as Take Five and the Kaufmann Entrepreneurial Year
  • Must maintain excellent academic performance
  • Are not required to take the GRE exams for admission to the MS program
  • Are expected to enroll for 15 months at he Warner School after their senior year (Summer, Fall, Spring Summer)

Important Information for Current GRADE Scholars

Please contact Sean Hanna, Associate Director, College Center for Academic Support, with any questions regarding the requirements for GRADE Scholars.

  • Policies/Requirements for current GRADE Scholars:
  • Complete two Warner School courses by the end of the senior year
  • Complete two foreign language courses at the college level or exhibit proficiency through examination
  • Maintain a 2.7 GPA in order to meet New York State certification requirements
  • GRADE Scholars are expected to attend special co-curricular events when they are offered (typically one to two per semester)
  • Update Warner School admissions content form for appropriate area after each semester
  • GRADE Proposal: Materials needed for Warner School acceptance (Due October 1st of senior year)

How to register for Warner School Courses:

  1. View Warner School course options
  2. Pick up appropriate drop/add form in Lattimore Hall 312
  3. Complete all required and student course information on the drop/add form
  4. Meet with GRADE advisor, Sean Hanna, in the College Center for Academic Support (Lattimore 312) to get approval for Warner course
  5. Bring form to Crys Cassano, Warner School Registrar, in Dewey Hall 2-160A
