Poets Gather in DC to Read, ReflectScholars and poets from across the United States gathered in Washington, D.C., last April for a symposium on poetry reading organized by Rochester history professor Joan Shelley Rubin. The event was part of the two-day session "Poetry in America: A Library of Congress Bicentennial Celebration," and it featured scholars and writers discussing their work and the place of poetry in American history and society. The symposium grew out of Rubin's research on the status and uses of poetry reading in America between 1880 and 1950.
