Moore Directs Entrepreneurial Efforts

LEADER: Duncan Moore, the new vice provost for entrepreneurship, is a former director of the Institute of Optics, and he served as associate director for technology in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy from 1997-2001.

Duncan Moore ’74 (PhD), the Rudolf and Hilda Kingslake Professor of Optical Engineering at the University, is leading new efforts to foster interaction among Rochester’s schools and departments to make entrepreneurship an integral part of courses and programs across all six schools. Appointed vice provost for entrepreneurship this spring, Moore directs the University’s new Center for Entrepreneurship, an initiative funded as part of a $3.5 million grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation that, with matching funds, has grown to $10.5 million. “The Kauffman grant has given the University a wonderful opportunity to transform the way entrepreneurship is nurtured and studied,” says Moore. “The next step will be to envision what entrepreneurship will look like post-Kauffman and to plan for the future.”
