Record Books Yellowjacket Seniors Join 1,000-Point Club

Yellowjackets Julie Marriott ’09 and Mike Chmielowiec ’09 each joined the 1,000-point club in February as the women’s and men’s basketball teams were powering through the second half of their seasons.

Marriott, a forward and center from Fairport, N.Y., is the ninth women’s player in Rochester basketball history to score 1,000 points, reaching the milestone during an 80–72 win against Emory University at the Palestra.

Chmielowiec, a forward from Batavia, N.Y., is the 24th men’s player to pass the 1,000-point mark, which came just before halftime in the Yellowjackets’ 73–65 victory over Emory. Chmielowiec scored 36 points in the game, a single-player total that has occurred only 16 times in the 108-year history of men’s basketball. Chmielowiec’s performance is the highest scoring total in one game in seven years.

With just five games left in the regular season, the women’s team was 19–1 overall and 8–1 in the UAA and ranked second in the country by D3hoops.com. The men’s team was 15–5 overall and 6–3 in the UAA.
