UNIVERSITY HISTORY Eastman School: 90 Years Young
(Photo: University Libraries/Department of Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation)WAITING IN THE WINGS: As students arrived for the first day of classes at the Eastman School on Sept. 19, 1921, work was progressing on what would become Eastman Theatre at the corner of Gibbs and Main streets in downtown Rochester. Established by George Eastman as the first professional school of the University, the school is marking its 90th anniversary during the 2011–12 year. Over nine decades, the school has grown from two buildings to include the Annex, Student Living Center, Miller Center (including Sibley Library), Messinger Hall, and the Eastman East Wing, which opened in 2010–11.
