Overview
The vision of the Language Center (LC) is to work with students, faculty, and staff to promote the languages currently offered on campus and to raise multilingualism awareness. The Language Center brings together, in one space, all the languages offered by the various departments and programs on campus and works closely with the campus community to develop resources that complement and supplement language classes.
The Language Center is a welcoming place where all members of the University of Rochester community engage in activities, events, and conversations designed to promote, educate, and raise awareness of linguistic pluralism across the community. We organize and sponsor activities focused on language learning and teaching topics.
In addition to offering classroom and meeting spaces, the Language Center provides peer tutoring to support students' academic success. In collaboration with other University units, we offer Virtual Reality (VR) tools with self-practice apps that promote language learning and improve proficiency and engagement outside the classroom. The Center features a community kitchen that faculty can reserve for classes and special events with streaming capabilities. Our Computer Hub offers students and faculty a flexible space with access to essential language teaching and learning software, multilingual TV, video and audio recording, and DVD players. See the facilities page to learn more about what the center has to offer.
Language Center hosts weekly conversation hours and regular language awareness events. See our events page for more information.
