UR First-Year Orientation Outing Treks

The University of Rochester First-Year Orientation Outing Treks (UR FOOT) program, established in 2005, offers incoming students the opportunity to arrive on campus early, connect with their classmates, and explore some of western New York's most beautiful natural wonders.

Fall 2022 Program



The Fall 2022 UR FOOT program will run from Saturday, August 20 through the end of Monday, August 22, 2022.

*All treks and activities will finish prior to Tuesday, August 23, allowing program participants to fully participate in Fall Welcome Week events. The second day of the UR FOOT program (Monday, August 22) does overlap with International Student Arrival Day. However, there is no required events on this day, so international student UR FOOT participants will not miss any mandatory programs.

Eligibility & Cost

  • The Fall 2022 UR FOOT program is open to incoming first-year students only and is limited to the first 50 participants to complete the application form (see below).
  • You must be able to move into your assigned on-campus housing on Saturday, August 20 (no alternate move-in dates will be allowed).
  • The program cost is $150 per student. Payment will be collected upon arrival to campus via cash or check. Limited scholarships are available based upon need. If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please indicate your interest on the application form.

Supplies & Gear

As a participant, you are expected to bring appropriate clothing and footwear for the Fall 2022 treks. A list of gear will be provided upon your acceptance to the program. If you need additional information about appropriate gear or have concerns about item availability, please contact us at

Arrival Day Information

Fall 2022 UR FOOT program participants are required to arrive on campus on Saturday, August 20, 2022 to check-in and attend the Welcome Dinner and Training from 4:30–6:30 p.m. (EDT).

You can head to your residential area office anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. (EDT) to pick up your room key and campus ID card and move into your assigned on-campus housing. Please make sure to finish up your move-in process before 4 p.m., so you have plenty of time to head to the Welcome Dinner in Douglass Commons.

The Fall 2022 UR FOOT program has reached capacity, but you can use the button below to add yourself to the waitlist, should one of the first 50 applicants not be able to attend the program. All applicants will be notified about the participant selection by Friday, July 22.
