What Are Communities of Practice?
Communities of Practice (CoPs) are learning communities where professionals with shared interests come together to:
- Exchange knowledge and best practices.
- Collaborate on challenges in digital marketing, communications, accessibility, and technology.
- Develop new skills through peer learning and shared resources.
- Innovate by experimenting with new approaches and tools.
Digital Makers is not a committee, a reporting structure, or a formal training program—it’s a space for collaborative problem-solving and skill-building.

A Community of Practice (CoP) is a group of professionals who come together to share knowledge, develop skills, and collaborate on common challenges in their field. It’s a space for continuous learning, networking, and problem-solving.
UMC recognizes the value of peer learning and collaboration in advancing best practices. By establishing the Digital Makers CoP program, we aim to create a structured way for professionals to share expertise, support each other, and improve digital practices across the university.
Our Digital Makers CoP program is designed for marketing, communications, and technology professionals, with a focus on digital accessibility, front-end web development, and design. Over time, we hope to expand to include other practitioners with shared interests.
- Access to a network of peers facing similar challenges
- Opportunities to share and gain insights on best practices
- Professional development and skill-building
- A collaborative space to influence and improve university-wide initiatives
The CoP will include regular meetings and events, online discussions, and shared resources. As the community grows, members will help shape its structure and activities.
