Proposal process: Steps to take

Pre-proposal planning

Consider the following questions to help with your planning:

  • Personal: Are you willing to commit a lot of time and energy into planning this program?
  • Support: Have you spoken to your Department Chair and are they supportive?
  • Program Structure: Which structure is best for this course?
  • Location: Is the location safe? How will the culture enhance the learning objectives?
  • Logistics: Where will the program stay and how will those arrangements be made? Will you work with an in-country partner organization? Are visas necessary?
  • Budget: Have you considered the overall budget and costs for this program?
Department approval

Meet with your department chair or School Dean to discuss your idea.

Timeline: Fall (12 months prior to travel)

Meet with our office

Meet with us to walk you through the proposal process. We’ll ensure you have all the resources you need to formally submit your plans.

Propose a program

Using the Education Abroad Portal, formally propose your program. Simultaneously, connect with third-party providers for program proposals.

Timeline: Due in the spring (12 months prior to travel)

Proposal reviewed

All proposals are reviewed by a curriculum (if a course exists as part of the program) committee and/or School dean and the Director of Global Risk Management. Final notifications or suggestions related to the proposal will be provided by CEA directly to the program director(s).

Timeline: Spring (6 to 12 months prior to travel)

Logistical preparation

Begin to reach out to third party providers to sign formal contracts and begin to prep for possible program.

Timeline: Spring through summer (3 to 4 months prior to travel)

Marketing your program

All hands on deck as we work towards marketing and enrolling students!

Timeline: Fall through early spring (3 to 4 months prior to travel)

Pre-departure

It’s now time to prepare your students for their journey ahead. Then, off you go!
