Marian McPartland and musiian Jason Moran |
Legendary jazz pianist Marian McPartland may not be an Eastman alumna, but she's made the school something of a second home, returning in April for the fourth Marian McPartland/Eastman Jazz Series.
Director James Undercofler presented McPartland with the Eastman Artist Award at a reception held in her honor. The Sibley Music Library also paid tribute to McPartland's accomplishments and association with Eastman with an exhibition in her honor.
McPartland and 27-year-old Jason Moran-whose CD Black Stars was named the best jazz recording of 2001 by The New York Times-performed at an annual jazz concert in Kilbourn Hall.
