Eastman Students Win National Honors
Several students at the Eastman School won prominent national awards last spring:

Oboist Bethany Slater ’04E and violinist Will Knuth ’03E received
Fulbright grants for a year of study abroad. Slater, who also received a Lusk
Memorial Fellowship, is heading to Paris to further her study of oboe performance,
and Knuth, who completed a Take Five program through the College’s German
and history departments, is going to Vienna to study the music and violin performance
of the second half of the 20th century.
Four keyboard students also took top prizes at organ and piano competitions:

Nicole Marane, a first-year doctoral student, was awarded the top prize at
the 14th annual John R. Rodland Memorial Scholarship Fund competition, sponsored
by the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and she
won the first annual Miami International Organ Competition.
Stephen Fraser, a master’s degree student, took first prize in the prestigious
Fort Wayne National Organ Competition, the oldest competition of its kind in
the United States.
Eric Dombrowski ’05E won first prize at the Wells Competition for Young
Organists at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock, Texas.
Hong Xu ’06E placed second at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition—receiving
the Kathleen Rowley Award—and at the Music Teachers National Association
(MTNA) Steinway Young Artists Competition.
