Graduates Honored
Emily Miller ’04 has received a Fulbright
Scholarship to study and teach in Argentina. During her time abroad, Miller
will be an English teaching assistant and plans to take classes in the sociology
of education in Argentina as well as English teaching methods.
Prabhjot Singh Dhadialla ’03 has been named
a 2005 recipient of the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans,
which are awarded annually to about 80 students from immigrant backgrounds to
pursue a graduate degree in any field. Dhadialla is pursing M.D. and Ph.D. degrees
through a program at Cornell.
Kenneth Guenther ’57, retired president
and chief executive officer of the Independent Community Bankers Association,
was recognized last winter by American Banker, a daily newspaper for
the financial services industry. The paper presented Guenther with its Lifetime
Achievement Award for his 25-year term as the head of the nationwide organization
for small banks.
Aaron Brock ’04E (DMA) won first prize
in the Allentown Symphony’s Edwin H. and Leigh W. Schadt String Competition
for his performance of Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez for Guitar
and Orchestra.
Carolyn Amick Portanova ’74W (Mas), president
and chief executive of the Catholic Family Center of Rochester, received the
Athena Award sponsored by the Women’s Council of the Rochester Business
Alliance. The award is given annually to the local woman who best reflects the
values of business achievement, community service, and support of professional
women’s advancement.
