Paz Leads Penn State’s Medical Center
The former dean of the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine has been named
senior vice president of health affairs, dean of the college of medicine, and
CEO of the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center at Penn State. Harold
Paz ’77, ’82M (MD), who has held faculty and administrative
posts at Robert Wood Johnson for the past 10 years, took over at Penn State
in April. He’s the second Rochester alumnus to serve as medical center
CEO at Penn State. Outgoing Rochester Medical Center CEO C.
McCollister Evarts ’57M (MD), ’64M (Res) led the program
from 1987 until 2000.
King for More Than a Day
Former students from across the country gathered to celebrate the 100th birthday
last fall of Ronold W. P. King ’27, ’29
(Mas), professor emeritus in the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences
at Harvard. King died a few months later in April. Best known for his work in
electromagnetics, King earned several honors from the Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers for his commitment to graduate education. After joining
the Harvard faculty in 1938, King advised more than 100 doctoral candidates,
which is believed by many in academic circles to be a record.
Grammy for Cahn
Percussionist Bill Cahn ’68E, a longtime
performer with the Paul Winter Consort, was a featured musician on the ensemble’s
2005 release Summer Solstice, which won a Grammy Award last February.
The album earned the Recording Academy’s award for Best New Age Album.
Group Names ‘Book of the Year’
Work by Steven Lazarus ’74S (PhD) and Margret
Amatayakul has been named a “Book of the Year” by the Healthcare
Information and Management Systems Society. Electronic Health Records: Transforming
Your Medical Practice (MGMA, 2005) was one of two books chosen for the
honor by the 17,000–member organization dedicated to improving the use
of information technology and management systems in health care.
