The Club Sports program at the University of Rochester is one of the most active and largest club sports programs across the nation. Students on campus are able to participate in athletics across various platforms, with other students who are motivated by a common interest and desire to participate in a particular sport. More specifically, club sports are formed as all-inclusive organizations in which participants can learn new skills, improve existing skills, engage in competition, or enjoy recreational and social fellowship. Each club at the University is classified as either a competitive club or recreational club based on their level of activity and scope. The students leadership of each club is responsible for forming, developing, governing, and leading the student membership of that particular sport. Wilson Commons Student Activities, in conjunction with the Department of Athletics and Recreation and Student Government, administer and assist over 40 registered club sports, representing over 1,100 active members.
Include those sports engaging in periodical extramural competition against other universities to work towards or qualify for national or regional competition. This includes, but is not limited to, club sports in an established league, working towards post-season play or participating in bid tournaments in which they must qualify.
Include those sports focused primarily on instruction, international competition or off-campus non-competitive play.
