Monroe County expanded its recycling criteria this summer for both plastics and metals. The University’s sustainability website, www.rochester.edu/sustainability/gogreen, includes information on the new guidelines.
Move-out Cleanout, an effort to collect and donate unwanted items as students move out of their campus housing in May, resulted in a collection of 7,930 pounds of gently used clothing, exceeding 2010’s collection by almost 400 pounds. Two residence halls—Anderson Tower and Wilder Tower—have received Energy Star Certification for energy efficiency. Fewer than 100 residence halls have qualified for Energy Star awards across the nation.
UHS has achieved accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. Status as an accredited organization means UHS has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by the association.
The new Multidisciplinary Studies Center is hosting a reception at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9. Visit with people who work with the undergraduate business programs, the public health-related majors and minors, and many other programs that call the center their home, such as archaeology, technology, and historical structures, and a host of minors and certificates. The Fellowships Office (formerly in Lattimore 312), and the Office of Undergraduate Research (formerly in Lattimore 212) share the newly renovated space in Dewey 4-209B.
The Year of RespectCPP, the Communal Principles Project, is an initiative of the College coordinated by the Office of the Dean of Students. The project was developed to promote the College’s Statement of Communal Principles and to encourage the involvement and inclusion of all its members.
The fundamental principles of freedom, responsibility, respect, honesty, fairness and inclusion are woven into the fabric that make up Rochester’s community of engaged, lifelong learners so beginning with the 2011-12 academic year one of the six principles will be highlighted annually. This year will be the Year of Respect and feature programming and activities related to this Communal Principle.
Students will be invited to apply for mini-grants to develop a program or activity that exemplifies the spirit and purpose of respect to the University community. Additionally faculty and staff will be encouraged to participate.
