Robert J. Thompson (PhD) writes, "Nancy and I celebrated our 50th anniversary with a group of friends who had all been at the wedding!" Thompson works part time for Johns Hopkins School of Engineering in the part-time graduate program.

Helen "Bettie" Fitzpatrick Lindley W (Mas) was a nominee for the Athena Award, given annually to "a Rochester-area professional who has produced exceptional results for their organization, demonstrated community leadership, and promoted the professional development of women." Lindley is coordinator of instruction for East High School in the Rochester City School District and project director for the Rochester branch of the American Association of University Women. She and her husband, Christopher, have three sons, ages 28 to 31.

Robert G. Zalosh (Mas) was granted tenure as professor of fire protection engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. Zalosh has been lead investigator on a contract from the U.S. Coast Guard dealing with various aspects of shipboard fire and explosion protection.

Dick Rosenbloom S (MBA) is president of Ameritherm, Inc., an induction loop heating equipment company in Scottsville, N.Y., and has offered much of his time and business acumen to students at the Simon School.

Elinda Fishman Kiss (Mas), '83 (PhD) is chief financial officer of Custom Equipment Manufacturing in Hatboro, Pa., and professor of finance at Penn State, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and at Temple University. . . . David Klink S (MBA) is director of internal audit for Hanover Direct, a catalog company in Weehawken, N.J. He is certified as a public accountant, internal auditor, and fraud examiner. . . . Ludwig E. Kolman (Mas) has joined the Chicago law firm of Vedder, Price, Kaufman & Kammholz as a partner in the litigation area. . . . The Hibernia Savings Bank of Quincy, Mass., has elected William E. Lucey S (MBA) to its board of directors. Lucey is a C.P.A. and a principal at O'Connor & Drew, P.C. in Quincy. He lives in Reading with his wife, Norma, and their children, Monica and Matthew.

In July 1995, Patricia Taylor Pivniak W (PhD) retired after 20 years on the faculty of Nazareth College of Rochester. In December 1995 she was awarded the rank of professor emerita. . . . The University of Chicago has named Richard Thaler (PhD) as Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Behavioral Sciences and Economics in the Graduate School of Business. Thaler is also director of the Center for Behavioral Economics & Decision Research at the school. He is the author of the books The Winner's Curse and Quasi-Rational Economics and is editor of Advances in Behavioral Finance. . . . Renee Wilk Wright (Mas) (see '71 undergraduate).

Janet Hasak is a patent attorney at Genentech, Inc. She reports that she wrote and obtained two basic U.S. patents to polymerase chain reaction (PCR), issued in 1987. "The technique is widely used by molecular biologists in colleges and universities as well as by corporate scientists and is found now in standard textbooks and handbooks on molecular biology. Kits, instruments, and products based on PCR are also sold throughout the world. In 1991, Roche AG bought the patent rights to PCR from Cetus Corporation, where I used to work, for about $300 million. The validity of the patents was challenged in court by a competitor who wanted to use the technology in its commercial diagnostic kits. The patent was upheld and no appeal was taken. The inventor named on the most basic PCR patent, Kary Mullis, won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for his invention in 1993."

Marsha Lehman S (MBA) was nominated for the 1996 Athena Award, given annually to "a Rochester-area professional who has produced exceptional results for their organization, demonstrated community leadership, and promoted the professional development of women." She is general manager, dental products, and vice president, Health Imaging Division, Eastman Kodak Co. Lehman, who serves on the boards of the Eastman Dental Center, Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center, and the American Dental Trade Association, lives in Rochester with her husband, Thomas Knapp.

Foley (PhD), professor of physics at Mississippi State University, was awarded a $100,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to develop an interactive computer graphics system for upper-level optics courses. . . . Kalmbach Publishing Co. has named Diane Morgenthaler S (MBA) circulation director. The company, based in Waukesha, Wis., publishes magazines covering hobby, special-interest, and leisure subjects. Morgenthaler had been vice president of magazine management and consumer marketing for Working Woman and Working Mother.

Colleen Clements (PhD) was the author of a "Women at Work" column that appeared in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle in April. Clement, clinical associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University, described her experience of re-entering the work environment after being home with her seven children.

Kazuto Tsubouchi S (MBA) is working for Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corporation in Japan as a senior manager in the Stock Holder Relations Section. . . . Jonathan Wolf (Mas) writes, "I received my Ed.M. in science education from Columbia University in February 1996 and just published my second book, Barron's College Review: Physics."

Karen Smith-Pilkington S (MBA), general manager and vice president, traditional cameras, in the Consumer Imaging Division at Eastman Kodak Company, was nominated for the 1996 Athena Award. Smith-Pilkington is chair of the Simon School alumni advisory council and board member and personnel committee chair of the Teenage Parent Support System. She and her husband, Wayne, have two children. The Athena Award is given annually to "a Rochester-area professional who has produced exceptional results for their organization, demonstrated community leadership, and promoted the professional development of women." . . . Jeffrey R. Smith S (MBA) (see '87 undergraduate). . . . Dean Tucker has been appointed assistant vice president at Wyoming County Bank in Rochester. Tucker oversees commercial loan operations. . . . Katrina VanBuskirk S (MBA) married Manuel Gonsalves IV on August 14, 1995, at sea aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. She is a cost accounting manager at Wallace International and lives in Brookline, Mass.

Timothy P. Cost S (MBA) is vice president for industrial relations at Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., responsible for the company's investor relations and communications programs with the institutional investment community. He lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Stephanie, and their two children. . . . Der-Ray Huang (PhD) received the Executive Yuan's 1995 Outstanding Sci-tech Talent Award in Taiwan in January. The award honors individuals who are considered Taiwan's most outstanding and respected science and technology workers, whose research has made a great impact in Taiwan. Huang's research is in the field of magnetic materials and technologies. He is senior engineer and research manager of the Magnetic Technology Laboratory in Taiwan and general secretary and executive councilor of the Chinese Association for Magnetic Technology. . . . Kay McClendon Royster W (EdD) has been named superintendent of the Kalamazoo, Mich., public schools. Royster, who had been assistant superintendent for instruction for the Atlanta, Ga., public schools, is the first woman and the first black to hold the position.

Penni J. Moss W (Mas) is acting director of the Center for Campus Ministry at Rochester Institute of Technology. Moss, program director of Hillel and a campus minister at R.I.T. since 1993, will coordinate the center's programs and activities and serve as a liaison between the university and local religious communities.

Leslie Ann Allen S (MBA) was engaged to marry Michael Maurer in June 1996. Allen is director of global strategy and analysis for Bausch & Lomb Contact Lens Division. Maurer, who is director of marketing for Bruegger's Bagel Bakery, is pursuing a M.B.A. at the University.
