PROFESSOR McKENZIE MAKES $1 MILLION GIFTLionel McKenzie, Wilson Professor Emeritus of Economics at the College, has made a $1 million gift to the University through the Lionel and Blanche McKenzie Family Fellowship Fund. The gift will support graduate student fellowships in the Department of Economics. Mrs. McKenzie, who died earlier this year, and her husband had close bonds with graduate students, especially those from Japan. McKenzie came to Rochester in 1957 to establish the College's economics department and to build a doctoral program emphasizing economic theory and mathematical techniques. He is well known as the architect of the general equilibrium theory, which deals with price formation and the supply of goods and services in a competitive economy. His books and articles also have helped expand an understanding of international trade and public finance.
