SCHEIBLE NAMED TO COACHING POSITION

James Scheible, formerly at Elmira College, is Rochester's new women's basketball coach.

As women's coach at Elmira, he led the college's Soaring Eagles into the NCAA Division III playoffs in each of the last two seasons, including an appearance in the "Sweet Sixteen" in 1998. Before that, he coached the Eagles to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate New York Championship for three straight years.

Scheible was named the Empire Athletic Association's Coach of the Year in 1998 and 1999 and was chosen as the New York State Coach of the Year in 1998.

He will be the fifth women's basketball coach in Rochester's history. He replaces Joyce Wong who announced her retirement in July. Wong is serving as a special assistant to Vice President and Dean of Students Paul Burgett this year. She remains as the senior women's administrator.
