Judith Wagner DeCew, professor of philosophy at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., writes that she has been named associate dean of the college. . . . Kelvin Jones, pastor at Community Wesleyan Church in Kirkville, N.Y., e-mails that he spent three-and-a-half weeks on a teaching trip to Zambia in southeastern Africa. At the invitation of Pilgrim Wesleyan Bible College at Jembo, he taught a condensed course in the Bible's Book of Acts to second- and third-year students. He also taught a weekend leadership seminar at the Wesleyan Church of Zambia in the Tonga district that was attended by more than 100 Zambian church leaders. . . . Priscilla Nelson e-mails an update: "After many years on the civil engineering faculty in the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, I resigned from Texas in 1996 to join the National Science Foundation. In August 1999, I was appointed director of the Division of Civil and Mechanical Systems in the Directorate for Engineering at the National Science Foundation."

Atlas Evans has been appointed director of financial services at MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston. The institute is the graduate school for medical professionals officially affiliated with the Massachusetts General Hospital. . . . Daniel Levy '75M (MD) e-mails that he is a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Maryland. He also serves as a consultant for the Maryland Department of Education, national spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a columnist for ABC News' abcchildrenfirst.com. He writes that he and his wife, Nancy Weinstock '73, have two children, Andrea, 23, and David, 21. . . . Nancy Kappus Schear (see '71 Nursing). . . . Ron Thomas, a sportswriter for the Marin Independent Journal, a newspaper near San Francisco, reports that he received a first prize in sports column writing from the National Association of Black Journalists. His column "Why So Few?" examined why there are so few black head coaches in the National Football League.

Stuart Schneider sends an update: His 13th book, The Handbook of Vintage Cigarette Lighters, has been released by Schiffer Publishing of Atglen, Ga. A former professional photographer, he took the photographs of the lighters featured in the book in addition to writing about them. Schneider writes that he is working on five new books on subjects that include Japanese Ikebana baskets and Halloween in America.

Ira Kaplan, a partner with Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff, LLP, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, has been named chair of the corporate and securities practice group. He also is a member of the firm's e-business and e-capital group. Additionally, he serves as a member of the firm's executive committee and has co-chaired the firm's middle market group.

Vincent Carrino, founder and president of Brookhaven Capital Management, has been appointed to serve on the board of directors of NTN Communications, Inc., a Carlsbad, Calif., company that specializes in digital and interactive networks.

David Asencio e-mails that he is a financial consultant at Merrill Lynch & Co. and lives in New Rochelle, N.Y. . . . Glenn Boreman, professor of optics and electrical engineering at the University of Central Florida, e-mails that he has been named editor-in-chief of the Optical Society of America's journal Applied Optics.
