![]() Paint pals: Wilson Day volunteers take five during a mural-painting session at Sojourner House, a shelter for battered women and their children. Annually observed at the beginning of the school year to commemorate the life and spirit of University benefactor Joseph C. Wilson '31, Wilson Day introduces freshmen both to each other and to opportunities for community service during their undergraduate careers. Over 1,000 volunteers took part in this year's 12th annual event, painting, cleaning, and otherwise helping out at dozens of social service agencies in and around Rochester. Local volunteers were joined nationwide by about 100 alumni and friends in six major cities participating in the second annual Wilson Day USA two weeks later.
