WOMEN WIN ECAC TITLE
Rochester finished the year 7-7 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) and tied for third place with New York University. Rochester split with the Violets in the regular season, beating NYU, 68-66, in the Palestra in early February when NYU was ranked 14th in the nation. Knocking off nationally and regionally ranked opponents became the norm for the Yellowjackets this season. In the Palestra, Rochester defeated four teams that eventually went to the NCAA Division III playoffs: Ithaca, Scranton, Buffalo State, and Case Western Reserve. Other key wins included two triumphs over St. John Fisher College-one to claim third place in the Chase Scholarship Tournament, the other to win the ECAC crown-and two over William Smith-one in early February, the other in the ECAC semifinals, 65-48. Jen LaBuda '02 capped her last season by winning Most Valuable Player honors at the ECAC championships. LaBuda was also named First Team All-UAA, Third Team All-Region by d3hoops.com, and Second Team All-ECAC. The senior finished her college career seventh in career scoring with 976 points. Erika Smith '04 and Shannon Higgins '04 were named Honorable Mention All-UAA.
