1970

Karen Block Johnese was named director of corporate citizenship for Block Communications of Pittsburgh. She was previously director of community affairs for the Block-owned Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

1971

Barbara Settel writes that she placed first overall in her age group at the U.S. National Masters Ski Championships, earning a spot on the 2003 U.S. Alpine Masters Team. She also notes that she has a new position as director of alumni relations for Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies. . . . Linda Costanza Shepard, who retired from the family business after running Costanza Enterprises with her father and brothers, still sits on the company’s board of directors. The company owns residential and commercial properties in Rochester and is renovating the downtown Temple Building for residential lofts and office space.

1972

James Collins has published two books: From Tribes to Nation: The Making of France, 500—1799 and The Ancien Regime and the French Revolution. In addition, Cambridge University Press has published a second edition of his book The State in Early Modern France and has bought out a paperback edition of Classes, Estates, and Order in Early Modern Brittany. He notes that he is a professor of history and department chair at Georgetown University, where his deputy chair is James Shedel ’70 (MA), ’78 (PhD). . . Susan Bass Levin, former mayor of Cherry Hill, N.J., is commissioner of the state’s Department of Community Affairs. Faced with the state’s $6 billion budget shortfall, she describes the position in the Newark Star-Ledger as her "dream job," but she concedes the budget nightmare is not easily shaken off.. . . Susan Wunder, a double major in English and geology at Rochester, recounted her diverse interests in a June Christian Science Monitor article titled "I’ve Still Got Rocks in My Head."

Mark Flanagan was appointed chief operating officer of Envox Group of Westborough, Mass. . . . Irwin Grossman sends an update. He is the president of Tetbury Consulting Group in Weston, Mass. He is also a member of the winning basketball team in the 50—54 age group at Massachusetts Senior Games and was planning to participate in the National Senior Games last summer. . . . Chris Koliopoulos has been named president and CEO of ADE Corporation of Westwood, Mass.

1976

Randy Auerbach writes to note the publication of Immigration & Nationality Law Handbook, 2002—03 edition, which he edited.

1977

Darice Bailer had several books published in 2002. They included the children’s books A Pet for Josh, Josh Counts, Where’s Your Mitten, Josh? and Snoopy: Flying Ace to the Rescue as well as the scuba and snorkeling guide, Dive!. . . . Tony Caccamo joined Roberts Communications of Rochester as creative director. He was previously general manager of Saatchi & Saatchi. . . . Joanne Wigod Gorode and Andrew Gorode send an update. Joanne was promoted to mid-Atlantic sales manager for Southcorp Wines, the largest premium wine producer in the world, where she is responsible for sales and marketing of the Lindemans, Penfolds, and Rosemount Australian brands, among others. Andrew has started his own accounting practice and specializes in nonprofit accounting. Joanne writes, "Also, I guess our lives have traveled the full circle. Our daughter, Kim, has just finished her freshman year as a dual degree student at Eastman for double bass performance and at the River Campus for American history." . . . Terry Gillen, the chief operating officer of National Community Capital Association, was named a 2002 Fannie Mae Foundation Fellow. Recognized for his commitment to affordable housing, he and the other fellows attended a three-week course designed to develop leadership skills, stimulate investment in new management techniques, and foster relationships among public-sector colleagues.

Amy Fellner was named a Fulbright Scholar and awarded a grant to teach law in Riga, Latvia, for the fall 2002 semester. . . . Mark Perlberg was named executive vice president and chief operating officer of PRG-Schultz International of Atlanta. He joined the company in 2000.

1979

Marsha Baum writes that she was promoted to professor of law at the University of New Mexico. She married Richard Klingler in Albuquerque in 2001.
