The College honored recipients of the Goergen Awards for Contributions to Undergraduate Education during last fall’s Convocation, the annual ceremony to celebrate the start of the acadmic year.
The awards are named for and sponsored by Board of Trustees Chairman Robert B. Goergen ’60 and his wife, Pamela.
Receiving the Goergen Award for Distinguished Achievement and Artistry in Undergraduate Teaching were Douglas Brooks, professor of religion; Patrick Davies, associate professor of psychology; Diane Dalecki, assistant professor of biomedical engineering; and Thomas Eickbush, professor of biology.
The Goergen Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Learning went to George VanderZwaag, director of athletics and recreation, and Sam Nelson, assistant professor of English, director of forensics, and head coach for the University Debate Union.
The Department of English and the College Workshop Courses sponsored by Learning Assistance Services received the Goergen Award for Curricular Achievement in Undergraduate Education.
"The University is fortunate to have faculty who challenge and stimulate students through their teaching," Goergen said during the ceremony on Dandelion Square. "The Goergen Awards recognize this richness of programmatic and individual excellence and motivates faculty to always be better."
