Sports Highlights

Fall Wrap-Up

The University’s athletic teams combined athletic and academic honors last fall. The men’s soccer team had the nation’s highest cumulative GPA for all colleges that sponsor the sport, and the women’s team had the nation’s second-highest cumulative GPA.

Individually, Justin Galloway ’05, a tackle on the football team, was named a Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American. Teammate Andrew Pederzolli ’04 was named a Regional Academic All- American for New York and New England.

Three men’s soccer players—Brandon Laws ’04, Nate Micklos ’06, and Nate Rimmke ’04—earned the regional academic honor as did women’s soccer player Kristin Kelly ’05.

In volleyball, Liz Loveless ’05 was named a regional Academic All-American as well.

Football (5–5, 3–1 in the UAA): The Yellowjackets finished in second place in the UAA. Sixteen players were named All-UAA, and eight were named to the All-UCAA team.

Men’s Soccer (14–4–3): The team won its fourth straight ECAC Northeast Regional championship. Tyler Green ’07 was named the Most Outstanding Player. Nate Micklos ’06 was named an NSCAA/ Adidas Third Team All-American. Eight players earned All-UAA acclaim and two were named to the NSCAA All-Region team. Coach Chris Apple ’92 was named the Regional Coach of the Year.

Women’s Soccer (11–8–2): The Yellowjackets finished as the runnerup in the ECAC Northeast Regional championships. Five players earned All-UAA honors and two were named All-New York State.

Women’s Volleyball (24–17): The team reached the ECAC Upstate New York semifinals, finished fifth at the New York State championships, and seventh at UAA’s. Susan Johnson ’07 and Liz Loveless ’05 were named All-New York State. Loveless was named Honorable Mention All-UAA.

Field Hockey (8–11): Two players— Katie Poeth ’04 and Erin Charnow ’05—were named First Team All-UCAA. Poeth was named First Team All-Region, Second Team All-New York State, and played in the North-South Senior All-Star Game at Lebanon Valley College in November. Charnow was named a Second Team All-Region honoree.

Cross-Country: The men finished 11th at the NCAA regional championships, and the women’s cross-country team finished 12th.
