Spring Wrap-Up

Men’s Track and Field: The men’s track and field team finished fourth at the New York State championships and 10th at the ECAC championships. Jacob Budny ’04 became Rochester’s first All-American decathlete in more than 20 years when he finished eighth at the NCAA Division III championships with a personal best of 6,479 points. He also was named the Atlantic Region Track and Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track Coaches Association. Rochester’s last All-American in the decathalon was Matt Riordan ’81 in 1981.

Women’s Track and Field: In the New York State championships, Rochester finished fifth. At the ECAC championships, the Yellowjackets were 26th. Katie O’Brien ’05 was named All-American in the 800-meter run for the second straight year, with a time of 2:15.13 in the championship race. She finished fifth overall and was just four 100ths of a second out of fourth place.

Men’s Golf: The golf team finished 18th at the NCAA Division III championships. Dave Masters ’04 was 28th overall with a score of 302. Jason Bronstein ’04 had a score of 319, Colin Quillinan ’07 finished at 321, Patrick Shanahan ’07 at 322, and Robert Sherman ’07 at 329. Shanahan was named Rookie of the Year in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Quillinan was named the UAA Rookie of the Year. He had the best finish of all freshmen at the UAA championships.

Men’s Baseball: The baseball team finished 25–10, 9–3 in the UCAA, and shared the UCAA title with Clarkson University—the first time Rochester has taken the title. Joe Fanning ’07 was named UCAA Rookie of the Year. Chris Rosenbaum ’06 was named to the ABCA All–New York Region First Team and Fanning was named to the Third Team. Rochester’s head coach Joe Reina and assistants Mike Fulkerson, Dave Palese, Mike Rudd, and Stewart Swayze were named the UCAA Staff of the Year.

Women’s Softball: The team set a single-season victory record with a 17–20 finish. Two freshmen were named All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association: Jena Robertson ’07 was named to the Second Team and Alison Rossi was named to the Third Team.

Tennis: The men’s team ranked 23rd in the Division III poll and finished third at the UAA championships, which Rochester hosted. The women’s team finished eighth at the UAAs.
Women’s Lacrosse: Facing eight ranked opponents, including five in the conference, the Yellowjackets finished 4–10.
