Work Begins on New Apartments, Health Service
Building
Rochester students will have a new option for living
near campus and a new place to get health care by this time
next year.
NEW VIEWS: Riverview Apartments (bottom), a collaboration between the University and a private developer, will provide housing for up to 400 University students; a new River Campus location for University Health Service will complement two other locations.
Work began this summer on a new undergraduate living
center: The Riverview Apartments will offer a combination of two-
and four-bedroom units. The five-building, 120-unit complex will
accommodate about 400 students and will be fully furnished, with
laundry and vending facilities, air conditioning, living room,
kitchen, and parking. The apartments are located near the
pedestrian bridge on the west side of the Genesee River, a short
walk to campus.
The project is a collaboration between the University
and private developer Riverview Equity I, which is building the
apartments and plans to make them available only to University
students.
And ground was broken in May for a River Campus home
for University Health Service. The 18,000-square-foot building,
located next to Susan B. Anthony Halls and Library Road, will bring
together all UHS services, including medical care, counseling,
health promotion, physical therapy, and the River Campus Medical
Emergency Response Team. The idea is to create a central location
where students can seek services for a range of health issues while
maintaining complete confidentiality. The new location complements
the existing UHS offices at the Medical Center and Eastman,
offering students, faculty, and staff three locations for medical
services.
The UHS building is scheduled to be completed next
summer, and the apartments are set to be ready for fall 2008.
