Our apologies to Allison Brooks Buonamassa, whose maiden name we failed to include in an entry in the September-October issue. Allison is managing director of the Office of Strategic Change at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She lives in Scarsdale, N.Y., with her husband, Eric, who is an attorney, and their son, Aaron. . . . Fred Guterl is assistant managing editor of Newsweek International, in charge of developing the magazine’s presence on the Web. He edits the homepage, Web-exclusive content linked to magazine features, guest columnists, and blogs, as well as directs the magazine’s coverage of science, technology, and the environment. He lives in Montclair, N.J., with his wife and two children. . . . Jay Higham, president and CEO of IntegraMed America, received the Ernst & Young Metro New York Entrepreneur of the Year 2008 Award in the health care category. . . . Ronald Levy writes that he has been married for 21 years, has two children ages 13 and 17, and lives in Houston. He was recently promoted to professor of anesthesiology and named a distinguished teaching professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and serves as director of the Patient Simulation Center there. 1982

Mark Wilson was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his work serving as support operations division chief assigned to CJ4 Logistics Directorate, Combined Security Transition Command in Afghanistan. The Marine Corps Reserve commander led operations to help develop the Afghanistan National Security Forces, as well as providing support to the Afghan National Army and the Afghan National Police.

1983

Erich and Kerry Higgins Wendt ’96 send a photo announcing the birth of their son, Stephen Robert, born in January. Stephen’s other Rochester connections include aunt Gretchen Wendt Cohen ’84, great-grandmothers Ruth Beecher Wendt ’26 and Anna Bullis Koch ’33, and great-grandfather and former chair of the psychology department George Richard Wendt ’27.

1985

Stephen Morrell has been appointed a group treasurer and director of financial planning at Trico Marine Services, a provider of underwater, trenching, and marine support vessels and services. . . . Jonathan Rubin has been named chief financial officer at Magellan Health Services, a health care management organization.

1986

Randy Abate has published Directory of Environmental Law Education Opportunities at American Law Schools (Carolina Academic Press).

1987

Amy Silbert Blake has been appointed to a judicial vacancy on the Essex County Probate and Family Court in Massachusetts. . . . Vasu Kilaru sends a photo from his wedding to Caroline Poole in Chapel Hill, N.C., on May 24.

1988

Bill Gressler writes that he moved to Tucson, Ariz., in August 2005 to work on the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope planned for construction in Chile, “with first light in 2014. With an 8.4-meter primary mirror, a 3.5-degree field of view, and a 3.2–gigapixel camera, it will provide over 5.5 million exposures over its 10-year survey campaign and enable a high-definition color movie of the deep universe!” He notes that the project received a $30 million gift from Bill Gates and Charles Simonyi and hopes to get funding from NSF in fiscal year 2011 to keep the project moving forward. He lives with his wife, Eloisa, and children, Emma, 6, and, Evan, 4. . . . Michael Hoshlyk sends a photo with Secretary of the Navy Donald Winter ’69 taken following commencement in June at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. Mike is commander of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ship Oscar Dyson, which helps protect, restore, and manage the use of living marine, coastal, and ocean resources. His primary mission is to study and monitor Alaskan pollock and other commercial fisheries in the Bering Sea and the Gulf of Alaska. . . . Randy Raetz sends a photo with Academy of General Dentistry President Vincent Mayher (left) from July, when he obtained his fellowship degree during the academy’s annual meeting in Orlando, Fla. Only 7 percent of dentists in the United States and Canada earn the fellowship degree.

1989

James Beardsley was deployed to the Middle East with the Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group Forward Hotel, which has a home base at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station in Williamsburg, Va. The Navy commander’s unit will perform customs inspection missions in Kuwait and Iraq.
