1981

Bill Spohn ’86 (MS) sends an update about his work with high technology: “I have amicably left Testo to co-own and manage TruTechTools, an independent Testo (and other brands) distributor.” Testo and related brands manufacture high technology measuring instruments for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning inspection and building science.

1983

Jeffrey Lyness ’86M (MD) and Michael Privitera ’83 (Res) have released an expanded and updated edition of their book Psychiatry Mentor: Your Clerkship & Shelf Exam Companion (F.A. Davis, 2009). The book offers tips for medical students on clinical rotations on psychiatric diagnoses, workups, and treatments.

1984

Eric Rubin writes: “Just wanted to drop a quick update on the arrival of my two young children: David Anthony Rubin, 2, and Jacob Lawrence, 8 months. While I may have been the youngest member of our graduating class, I’m a late bloomer to fatherhood and family life! Hope everyone is doing OK during these very challenging times.” . . . Bruce Schneier has published a collection of essays, Schneier on Security (Wiley Books, 2008), in which he outlines his case for redirecting federal dollars from security technology to improvements in intelligence and investigation. Bruce is the chief security technology officer at British Telecommunications (BT).

1985

Kathleen Barry Wagner received a master of science degree in education from Nazareth College in May 2008 and is teaching art in elementary and secondary schools in the Rochester area.

1986

John Illig, the men’s and women’s squash coach at Middlebury College, reports that he has published a new book, Man in the Middle (Elderberry Press, 2009), that completes a trilogy of narrative accounts of his experiences hiking the “triple crown trails.” His latest work tells about his experience on the Continental Divide Trail, the longest and most dangerous of the trails. John’s experiences on the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail are recounted in Pacific Dream and Trail Ways, Path Wise, both published in 2005, also by Elderberry Press.

1987

Michael Thome has coauthored a tutorial and reference book, Scripting Your World: The Official Guide to Second Life Scripting (Sybex, 2008). The book introduces the programming language LSL, the scripting language behind the online virtual world known as Second Life, which enables objects to interact with human players, as well as other objects, on the Internet.

1989

Mark Zaid writes: “I’m honored to report I was named one of D.C.’s 2009 Super Lawyers in the field of administrative law for my work handling national security whistleblower and secrecy cases.” Super Lawyers is a listing of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas, chosen by their peers and through the independent research of Law & Politics magazine. . . . John Horn has been named partner in charge of Harter Secrest & Emery’s Buffalo office. A partner since 2007, John joined the firm in 2000. He also serves on the boards of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Federation for Just Communities of Western New York. He lives in Williamsville, N.Y. . . .
