1963

Larry Kerpelman (PhD), a psychologist, health care writer, and editor in Acton, Mass., has written a book, Pieces Missing: A Family’s Journey of Recovery from Traumatic Brain Injury (Two Harbors Press). It recounts the struggle of his wife, Joanie, to recover from a freak accident she suffered while jogging. He writes: “It’s not only a story of how our marriage and family persevered and tried to survive the biggest crisis of our lives, but also a narrative of how health care is delivered and an account of what traumatic brain injury is all about. Above all, it’s a memoir of love, hope, family, healing, and recovery.”

1970

Judith Humphrey (MA), founder and president of the Toronto-based communications and leadership development consultancy The Humphrey Group, has written a book, Speaking as a Leader: How to Lead Every Time You Speak (John Wiley & Sons). . . . Ari Requicha (PhD) has been elected into the National Academy of Engineering. He’s a professor of computer science and electrical engineering at the University of Southern California, the Gordon Marshall Chair in Engineering, the founding director of the Laboratory for Molecular Robotics, and vice president for publications for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Nanotechnology Council.

1971

Anita Massafra Bonanni W (Mas) (see ’64 Medicine and Dentistry). . . . Sarah Fisher Liebschutz (PhD) has published a book, Communities and Health Care: The Rochester, New York, Experiment (University of Rochester). Sarah is a distinguished service professor emerita at SUNY–College at Brockport.

1976

Susan Reinhardt Groesbeck (MA), ’89W (EdD), the principal of Havergal College, a Toronto independent university-prep day and boarding school for girls, has won the 2011 Ransome Prize for leadership in girls’ education from the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools. The coalition, based in Massachusetts, includes member schools throughout North America, as well as in Africa and Asia. This year is Susan’s fourth as principal at the school.

1986

Jim Cohn W (MS), a poet and scholar in Boulder, Colo., has written a book, Sutra & Bardos: Essays and Interviews on Allen Ginsberg, the Kerouac School, Anne Waldman, Postbeat Poets, and the New Demotics (Museum of American Poetics Publications).

1987

Rajiv Jain (MS) has been named chief technology and innovation officer at the digital media company IncrediMail. Before joining IncrediMail, Rajiv was executive vice president of Corbis.com and chief technology and innovation officer of the imaging archive and licensing company Corbis.

1989

Susan Reinhardt Groesbeck W (EdD) (see ’76). . . . Brian Meath S (MBA) is secretary of the board of directors of Thompson Health in Canandaigua, N.Y., and also serves on the board of directors of Happiness House–Finger Lakes Cerebral Palsy Association.

1992

Catherine Tumber (PhD) has published a book, Small, Gritty, and Green: The Promise of America’s Smaller Industrial Cities in a Low-Carbon World (MIT Press), based on visits and interviews she conducted in 25 small cities in the Northeast and Midwest. A journalist and historian, Catherine argues that smaller American industrial cities such as Syracuse, Akron, Ohio, and Flint, Mich., are well situated to prosper in a low-carbon future.

1993

Adam Parkes, a professor of English at the University of Georgia, has published a book, A Sense of Shock: The Impact of Impressionism on Modern British and Irish Writing (Oxford University Press).

1994

Don Drennon Gala W (PhD) has been appointed associate professor of criminal justice and education at Martin Methodist College in Tennessee after a year as assistant professor of criminal justice at the college. He’s developed two new courses for this fall: Research in Criminal Justice and Multicultural Education. Don’s teaching career comes after 26 years in government service, from which he retired in 2008.

John Rocco S (MBA) has been appointed director of operational excellence at BlueShield of Northeastern New York. Previously, John was operational process improvement manager at Unity Health Systems.

Bret Apthorpe W (EdD) has been appointed assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Fairport Central Schools in Fairport, N.Y., near Rochester. . . . Jeffrey Morse S (MBA) (see ’07 undergraduate).

2009

Jennie Lightweis-Goff (PhD), has published a book, Blood at the Root: Lynching as American Cultural Nucleus (SUNY Press). The book is based on Jennie’s dissertation, which won the 2009 SUNY Press Dissertation/First Book Prize in African American Studies. She’s an American Council of Learned Societies new faculty fellow in English and gender and sexuality studies at Tulane.

2010

Roger Cordero Mueses S (MBA) has been named to the board of the Rochester chapter of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs. Roger is a compensation analyst at Constellation Brands.
