Opportunities for Non-Senate Members

Faculty governance at the University of Rochester depends not only on elected representatives, but also on the insight, participation, and expertise of the wider faculty community. Even if you are not currently serving on the Faculty Senate, there are many valuable ways to stay informed, contribute to discussions, and shape the academic direction of the University.

  • Attend Senate Meetings

All faculty are welcome to attend Faculty Senate meetings. Attending meetings is an excellent way to stay informed about emerging topics and gives you’re the ability to relay timely feedback to your representative.

  • Serve on Committees

Several Senate committees include seats for faculty who are not elected senators. Serving on a committee allows non-senators to contribute expertise, raise questions, and participate in shaping recommendations that ultimately inform senate deliberations.

  • Share Feedback and Perspectives

Input from the broader faculty community is essential. Non-senate members can submit feedback, questions, or letters to the senate to highlight issues affecting their departments, disciplines, or the University more broadly. This feedback helps senators bring forward concerns that might otherwise go unaddressed and ensures that discussions reflect the experiences of faculty across the institution.
